One of the largest state schools in Europe and the most expensive state school in Britain, costing £46m, The Thomas Deacon Academy opened in September 2007.
The Brief in Brief
To create an outstanding educational space where performance criteria was crucial, high performance specification.
The performance requirements for this project included that the glazed screens met the Academy criteria of withstanding a crowd pressure point loading of 1.5kN, have 30 minute fire rated double glazed screens and met an acoustic performance of 42dB (Rw), as well as the atrium glazing which is a unique combination. The glazed partitions created an open, inviting environment to stimulate learning.
Komfort worked closely with Stortford Interiors to provide a performance solution to the design requirements for this prestigious project.
The end result
This project won the 2008 AIS (Association of Interior Specialists) Silver Award in category Partitioning – value band over £100k.
