One Angel Square Project
Background
One Angel Square serves as new headquarters for Northamptonshire County Council. The new design enabled the County Council’s employees to relocate from 12 separate properties into one BREEAM Excellent building.
The Building
One Angel Square covers 22,000 sqm of office space to accommodate 2,000 employees. In addition to acting as new headquarters for the council, the new building is integral to the urban regeneration plans for Northampton.
The Brief in Brief
The brief was to provide an environment for the council that encourages collaborative working, improved productivity and also wider urban regeneration.
The design and build included a central courtyard, office space, informal meeting areas, touchdown areas and other collaborative spaces grouped around it. It was crucial for both staff and visitors to experience a sense of wellbeing by maximising the use of natural daylight.
Komfort’s Solution
The Polar System is one of Komfort’s most sought-after designs with its virtually frameless system and impressive acoustic capabilities, it is a partitioning solution which allows for a combination of contemporary aesthetics and elegance, without compromising on function.
Komfort’s Polar system was specified and installed throughout One Angel Square, including all the meeting rooms. With the integration of such high-performance interior elements, this former derelict site has now been developed into an exemplar sustainable building.
Beyond sustainability and wellbeing standards, the use of Komfort’s bespoke Polar System enabled technology to be seamlessly integrated into the design, with the use of a booking system wired through the doorframe.
The end result
One Angel Square has been named as one of the most significant regeneration developments in the town, has been awarded the RIBA East Midlands Award 2018 and has achieved BREEAM’s Excellent standard.
