Investing in Sustainable Manufacturing: How Our Machinery Upgrades Are Cutting Emissions

As part of our continuous commitment to operational excellence and environmental responsibility, Komfort is heavily investing in advanced machinery to reduce our carbon footprint. Sustainability is no longer just an operational goal; it is a core pillar of our manufacturing strategy.

Our latest equipment upgrades and rigorous capital expenditure evaluations demonstrate how smarter engineering, automated workflows and energy-efficient technologies are actively helping us lower emissions while maintaining the highest standards of product quality.

Recent Equipment Upgrades: Driving Down Emissions in Sheet Metal Operations

We recently completed two major equipment upgrades across our sheet metal processing operations that directly align with our Carbon Promise:

TRUMPF TruMatic 200 with Sheet Master Compact Automation: Automates sheet loading, unloading and scrap handling to eliminate non-productive machine idle time and improve overall equipment utilisation.

TRUMPF TruBend 5170 Press Brake: Replaces our Amada HFE 130-4 and introduces TRUMPF’s On-Demand Servo Drive technology, which operates only during active bending to eliminate unnecessary power draw, noise and heat generation.

The Combined Annual Impact:

• 1.08 tonnes reduction in CO2e emissions (0.46t from the TruMatic + 0.62t from the TruBend)

• 5,200 kWh of electricity saved (2,200 kWh + 3,000 kWh)

Beyond reducing power consumption, these upgrades allow us to make smarter use of our existing factory footprint. Improved bending accuracy minimises material waste, automated handling reduces non-productive cycle times and faster setup performance boosts productivity per component.

Operational excellence and environmental responsibility go hand in hand. We’re proud to keep building high-quality solutions with a lighter environmental footprint.

Strategic Capital Investment

As part of our continuous equipment evaluation process, Komfort is shifting focus toward high-efficiency profile machining centres that maximise output while minimising resource consumption. Our latest capital investment appraisal looks closely at adopting the Elumatec SBZ 118 for our aluminium doorframe machining operations.

Compared to heavier legacy machinery, the SBZ 118 introduces targeted engineering features that directly support our sustainability targets:

  • Low-Power Intelligent Control & DC-Link Coupling: Elumatec’s advanced design optimises axis-drive efficiency, ensuring power is drawn intelligently only when needed.

  • Minimum-Volume Lubrication: Integrated minimal-quantity lubrication reduces fluid waste and keeps components clean without the high environmental overhead of traditional flood cooling.

  • Compact 3-Axis Design with High-Speed Precision: Tailored specifically for standard aluminium profiles (up to 3,000 mm length), its 5.0 kW air-cooled routing spindle provides ample power for doorframe fabrication without the over-specification energy penalty of larger, heavy-duty routing centres.

Projecting the Environmental and Financial Return

Our comparative modelling against larger alternatives (such as the SBZ 130) demonstrates how right-sizing machinery translates to direct carbon savings:

  • Annual Electricity Reduction: ~2,400 kWh saved

  • Annual Carbon Reduction: ~314 kg of C02e saved annually (calculated using the official 2026 UK grid conversion factor of 0.13096 C02e

Measuring Success Beyond Nameplate Power

To ensure these projected savings translate directly to the factory floor, Komfort evaluates equipment using a practical performance metric: kWh per completed aluminium doorframe set rather than standard nameplate capacity. By factoring in cycle times, idle efficiency and secondary processes, we ensure every new machinery investment delivers maximum productivity with the lowest possible environmental footprint.

Operational Excellence Hand in Hand with Sustainability

At Komfort, we believe that reducing our environmental impact should go hand in hand with delivering high-performing, precision-engineered solutions for our clients. By pairing automated sheet metal processing upgrades with energy-conscious profiling technology like the Elumatec SBZ 118, we are actively shrinking our environmental footprint and building a more sustainable future.
