Background & building

The new campus is located in the heart of Scotland and honours the memory of the legendary author who was not only a pupil at Kilmarnock Academy but later worked as a teacher.

The new campus accommodates 1,465 secondary, 383 primary and 80 morning and 80 afternoon early years pupils. The campus covers 18,360m2  of space.

'Create new opportunities and benefits to the whole community.'

Komfort’s Solution

To help this dynamic brief, Komfort’s Polar systems were installed by WorkSmart and covered a large area of the facility. Polar’s single glazed minimalist form is designed with the minimum of components, thus facilitated speed of erection without compromising structural stability and rigidity. The patented bubble joint ensured a virtually frameless system with no vertical posts between modules, corners or three-way junctions.

Double glazed Polar’s simplistic method of installation, relocatability and powerful acoustic properties made it an intelligent option for this fit-out. The bubble joint and discreet mullions, or ‘ghost posts’, and framework of double glazed Polar combines contemporary aesthetics, elegance and durability.

The brief in brief

The Contractors were briefed to minimise overall energy consumption of the project and to achieve environmental standards. The new campus was successfully designed and built to reach interactive and collaborative teaching and learning needs; to create new opportunities and benefits to the whole community, bringing together local academies whilst also ensuring multi-use, flexible community facilities. To ensure business continuity, the project was carried out in phases.

The End Result

This new landmark building has created an inspiring and collaborative environment for the local community to benefit from;

“This development has provided many educational activities for students from schools and colleges across the region who have participated in project related events. It has also created a number of opportunities for local apprentices and graduates.”

Thanks to the strong communication between all the parties involved, this remarkable project was completed within schedule. As always it was a pleasure to work with WorkSmart, who seamlessly create inspiring projects time and time again. We look forward to working closely with them in the future.
