The use of ramps to enter buildings is vitally important to ensure access for all. In accordance with The Equality Act 2010 (which replaced the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act), we all have a responsibility to ensure “reasonable provision to be made for access to a building and use of facilities within a building.”
Ramp handrails and balustrades are suitable for internal and external access ramps to buildings, as well as raised floors. Ramps greatly increase the ‘user-friendliness’ of a building.
Our structural glass and post and rail system are recommended for ramp applications; both can be designed with double height offset hand rails for compliance to the latest legislation for public sector buildings.
Ensure your ramp is wide enough for wheelchairs to cross and has areas where people can stop and rest. Tactile elements and a secondary rail, lower down for children and wheelchair users are all available for your consideration. Komfort does not recommend timber for external applications.
